Spreckels Union Educational Foundation (S.U.E.F.) is a nonprofit organization that fundraises annually with a goal of $90,000 to help fund the Garden, Library, Arts and Music programs for Spreckels Elementary and Buena Vista Middle School.
Currently the school district is actively recruiting a music teacher, the art program has expanded, and the elementary school library is open to students daily. The garden is being actively used through our garden days program where teachers have the opportunity to sign up for a crop specific presentation for their class and each student gets to participate in the planting and harvest. At Buena Vista 14 students will be using the garden all of the 3rd trimester for their activity period with some new tools, supplies, and storage. We have also added a Mexican folkloric dance program through Tonatiuh Danzantes Del Quinto Sol for students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade and are looking to expand to the middle school next year.
